Culture and Language
( 1 items )
Mexican culture is unique enough, but Mazatlan has it's own particular brand. It's been molded by foreign influences from the beginning and has always been an island of culture in a sea of hicks...and recently, tourists. One example: it's the only Mexican beach resort with a ballet school and opera house.

Politics
( 1 items )
The state of Sinaloa has been called the "Sicily of Mexico" and Mazatlan politics bear that out, with different wrinkles because of its role as a pleasure port. Here are some links to clarify or further confuse the political matrix in which Mundo operates.
-
Carnival
( 2 items )
SWEET SPOT takes place over Carnival Week--the third largest celebration in the world, behind New Orleans and Rio. Here are links, images and videos to help fill in that experience.
-
Music City
( 2 items )
Like New Orleans or Nashville, Mazatlan is a music city that has spawned more than its share of styles that have swept over Mexico and much of Latin America. From Pedro Infante to the brassy "Banda" sound, to the current "narco-corridos", the town has a dominance in brash hick music to this very day. These links are to articles on Maz Music by "Javili", a local journalist (and ballplayer who was very influential on the creation of the character of "Mundo")

Baseball
( 1 items )
Mazatlan is a baseball-crazy town. Here is some material about the local scene, including Mazatlan's Venados, major players in a minor league that's better than the major leagues!
